A Nantucket-Born Designer Made This Beach House So Glam
"I used to poke around construction sites," Tharon Anderson says of her high school days on Nantucket — an island of cobblestone streets and countless shades of New England gray, from the cedar shingles to the fog. "I'd flip through the floor plans and think, This is what I want to do someday!"
And so she did, spending her early career working for Dell Mitchell Architects, then Peter Pennoyer Architects. Next up for the 29-year-old decorator: a restaurant. "It's not that different from designing a home. Once you have your cocktail, you want your eye to settle on something interesting."
In a client's home, Anderson added antiqued-mirror tiles by Artistic Tile to the butler's pantry. The rattan pouf is from Crate & Barrel. A Made Goods mirror brightens up the basement entryway.
Guests can take in the view from the Crate & Barrel dining table. The sculptural chandelier is by Lindsey Adelman. A cheery wallpaper by Christopher Farr matches a vanity in Benjamin Moore's HC 151- Buckland Blue. The floor tile is from Mosaic House.
Both the walls and the ceiling are painted a custom color from Fine Paints of Europe. Anderson upholstered the custom sofa in Kensington wool by Holland & Sherry. Waterworks sconces light the vanity in a third-floor bathroom. The hexagonal floor tile is from Nemo Tile.
